Lots Of Prayer Requests From The NICU Tonight

Our organization serves a BIG GOD and we know when we petition with prayers for preemies and babies in the NICU He hears us in a BIG way. Our small Preemie Prints community coming together to so often to pray for babies is making a difference. Tonight we had three requests come in at the same time, so instead of posting each on facebook we are putting them all in a blog post to share with you. Please keep all of these precious miracles and their families in your prayers tonight. #prayers #NICU

NICU Prayer Request #1
"My daughter is a one pound miracle. She went into surgery today for inertia hernia and a repair to her stomach (plyoric stenosis). She was one the cpap when going into surgery... now she will be intubated. Can you please pray for Karyssa?"

NICU Prayer Request #2
This one if for one of very own Preemie Prints volunteer photographers, Karina Johnson. She is so special to us and now she's a part of our community. Her son was born full term today with fluid on his lungs. She has not been able to hold him and is hurting.

"Our baby boy was born at 1:41pm weighing 8Ib 14oz. Pls keep baby Vincent in your prayers he is in the NICU due to fluid in his lungs. It breaks my heart that I wasn't able to hold him and can't see him until later on tonight BUT I know God is in control!"

NICU Prayer Request #3
"I would like to send a prayer request out for my son Kelson. He turned a month old today in the NICU of Children's Hospital of Pittsburg. He has been here since his birth. I had Kelson at 31 weeks and besides him being preemie he was born with a heart condition called TGA known as Tranposition of the Great Arteries. He will be having heart surgery when he is around 38-42 weeks old. With prayers so far Kelson has began full feeds as well as put weight on. At birth he weighed 3 pounds 9 ounces. As of now he weighs 4 pound3ounces. He continues to make progress each day and hopefully within the next two the doctors will be removing his ventilator. I just pray that this does happen on schedule and there is no set backs for Kelson. He is a very strong baby with a very powerfull will to live. I know God has a plan for my Son there is no doubt in my mind. So please pray that Kelsons road to recovery and becoming better is a smooth one with no set backs and he continues his great work of doing what his doctors are wanting him to do.Mommy loves you baby boy and God is on our side 100%."

Thank you for praying for these families and babies.

A NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM
"Our sweet Anna Joy's remarkable story began at our 20 week ultrasound where she was diagnosed with spina bifida.  Spina Bifida is when the spine of the baby has an opening and the spinal cord and nerves are not protected.  Anna and I (her mommy) underwent surgery together when Anna was just 24 weeks gestation called open fetal surgery.  During the surgery they placed her spinal cord back inside of her and closed the opening on her back.  She was just 1 1/2 pounds for her surgery.  After her part of the surgery was complete they then closed my uterus and I was on strict bedrest with the hopes that Anna would arrive at 37 weeks.  Bedrest was going very well and Anna was doing great until we reached 29 weeks.  At 29 weeks, 5 days I went into intense labor, my water broke at home and Anna was born 3 hours later in a hospital room with no one there to help us.  I truly believe God was with us the entire time.  I never felt frightened and I am unbelievably grateful for His protection.  :)  After Anna was born everyone rushed into action and she was taken to the NICU.  After a few wonderful hours of bonding with her through the windows of the incubator she was transported to our Children's Hospital.  I was discharged the next morning to be with her.  She had many ups and downs, steps forward, steps back in the NICU but after 72 days she came home!  On her due date!  :)   It was a wonderful day and such an amazing feeling to have our family of 6 finally together at home!  Anna is such a blessing, she fills our hearts with joy every single day.  She has been through so much already- even before she was born and she is thriving!  She is our little miracle!!"

Preemie Prints Volunteer Photographer:
Daneane Robinette - Cinncinatti, OH

A note from Daneane:
"I had a great time photographing Anna Joy. Anna’s mom had some great picture ideas!  I always love when clients have meaningful props or special ideas they want to capture. One idea she had was to capture the beauty of Anna’s scar.  Anna was big and strong-kicking her feet, sitting up, grabbing her toes…you would never know that she started out so small and was at risk for not being able to move her legs.  That beautiful scar on her back is a reminder of the obstacles she has overcome and what a miracle she is!"

Welcome Preemie Prints Photography Volunteer, Minvi!

Please help us welcome volunteer photographer, Minvi! Minvi will be helping give the gift of photography to preemie and NICU families in Texas!!

Minvi Duncan Photography

Service Area: Allen, TX
Hospitals: Presbyterian Hospital (Allen), Medical Center of Plano, Medical Cernter of McKinney, Centennial Hospital, Baylor Hospital (Plano/Frisco)

About Minvi:
"I am a visual artist who enjoys promoting art education by volunteering in our city and schools. About two years ago, I traded my paints and brushes and set out to pursue what was once a “hobby” more seriously. Photography has given me my life’s purpose. Through a couple of current Facebook photo blogs: FACES of A-Town and The PixElation Project, I am able to share my creativity with our community. FACES of A-Town is a page dedicated to visual narratives of common people I encounter day to day. Inspired by the now famous, Humans of New York page, FACES features photo stories of everyday random encounters with people in our City of Allen, TX. Some stories are inspiring, some quirky and funny, others informative, and maybe even extraordinary. The PixElation Project is a community-giving endeavor with the vision of bringing happiness back to people through pictures! Our first project was with the Samaritan Inn in McKinney, TX where we provided a photo session to the families and gifted each one with photo prints and CDs this past holiday season. A couple of projects are also in the works through our partnership with Help-Portrait.
It still amazes me everyday how a seemingly simple act of taking one’s picture can have quite an impact on someone, especially a total stranger. That the image you are able to capture in that brief moment of time can convey a powerful message and touch one’s heart. I love creating these photo stories over and over again and be able to lift up someone’s spirit especially at times when they need it most. It nurtures my soul just the same to see the spark in their eyes when I look into the lens to take the shot. It’s instantaneous, thought provoking, and many a times, inspiring – helping renew the hope and joy people sometimes feel they may have lost in their lives. This is why I chose to be part of Preemie Prints.

I am very honored to be selected as one of your volunteer photographers and look forward to working with your organization."

NICU photography: Sharing Hope With NICU Families

With over 85 volunteers we have given the gift of NICU & NICU graduate photography to over 350 families to date. WOW! We're blessed to be a part of the Today Show and TODAY Moms "Labor Of Love" story! Although the Today Show segment this morning (you can watch it below) was specifically about 1 NICU photographers journey, it beautifully shows why our organization is here doing what we're doing for NICU families and what it means to those families. If you've had a Preemie Prints NICU or NICU graduate photo shoot we would love for you to comment below with what it means to you - just as the family in this story did.

Also, if you feel inclined to support our organization's mission we would be so thankful. You can do this by either making a small tax deductible donation by clicking the donate button on the right side of our site or by volunteering your time to "share hope" with NICU families. Photographers who are interested can email sherri@preemieprints.org and those who are interested in helping in other ways, such as sewing or other areas can email amber@preemieprints.org.

NICU STORY | THOUGHTS FROM MOM

"I found out I was pregnant on August 21st. October 10th, I found out I was going to have twins and was 11 weeks. October 14th I went to the ER, becuase I had excessive bleeding, turns out everything was fine, and I was put on bed rest for two weeks. November 4th I found out I was blessed with a little boy and girl. A few weeks later I was admitted to the hospital. I had to have my cervix sewn up because I was 100% effaced. I was then on bed rest until December 20th when they admitted me to the hospital once again. I was dilated to 3cm. I am from Tyler, TX and was there until December 24th when they life flighted me to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX.

On December 26th I had my precious baby boy, Brody Dene. He was 23 weeks 1 day, weighed 1 lb 3 ozs and was 11.5 inches long. He was born naturally. My little girl Harper Lee was still nice and cozy in my tummy, bouncing off the walls because she had all kinds of room now. Brody then passed away 3 days later on the 29th due to several issues. I never got to hold him or really see him until he passed away. I didn't want to let him go, but I knew I had to stay strong for my baby girl. On January 1st I had Miss Harper. She was 24 weeks, weighed 1 lb 5 ozs, and was 11.5 inches long. She was born by emergency C-Section.

Harper was born very premature and has been through a lot. She had gotten a bacterial infection - which I am not going to even begin to try to spell. It was pretty serious, she got really sick, and they had to put her on a bigger vent with very high settings. She was on three different blood pressure medications and insulin. Shis is now off of all that and is on a bubble CPaP - meaning she is pretty much breathing on her own. She also has stage 4 IVH on both sides of her brain. She is 30 weeks now, and they are monitoring her head growth. If it continues, they will send her to a different hospital and will have to put a reservoir in her head to drain the fluid off. If it does not start draining by itself, then later on they will go in and put in a shunt. We are hopeful that everything will turn out just fine and we won't have to go through all of that. God has a plan and he is in charge. We have to give it all to him and have faith."

Preemie Prints Volunteer Photographer:
Minvi Duncan - Dallas, TX

A note from Minvi:

"It was such a pleasure to meet Berlynn and Baby Harper last Friday. As a first time volunteer for Preemie Prints, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect when I got up to the NICU floor of Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. The nursing staff was kind enough to show me exactly where they were. Once inside, Berlynn came to meet me and led me in to see Harper Lee.
Harper Lee, all of 6+ lbs. was sound asleep the first few minutes I was there. Although she has gained weight since she was first born, she still looked so delicate. Dressed beautifully in a pink outfit complete with a matching pink bow of curly ribbons and feathers., she is such a little angel -- all beautiful and quietly content.
As we got ready for the shoot, Berlynn picked up Harper Lee and held her lovingly in her arms. You can tell right away the strong bond between them. Harper Lee was quiet throughout the shoot until about the time I was getting ready to pack. Then her eyes opened, and I just had to take some more pictures. before leaving. She didn't seem to mind the extra attention.
Thank you Berlynn for the opportunity to meet you and Harper Lee. I pray for the day that she finally gets released from the hospital so you two can be together peacefully back at home. You are a brave person and one day, in time, Harper Lee will know all that."
